Lab consumables are essential disposable items used in scientific research and experiments. These include pipettes, tubes, gloves, reagents, culture plates, and more. They ensure accuracy, sterility, and efficiency in laboratory work, supporting a wide range of scientific investigations.

$50 - $100 - Chemical Reagents or Control DNA Plasmids

A use of chemical reagents can be for a polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is a molecular laboratory technique used to rapidly produce/amplify millions of copies of a specific segment of DNA. Reagents help us perform the specific and different PCR protocols.

$250 - One set of western blot gels and transfer packs

Western blotting helps us study proteins by separating them based on size and transferring them to a membrane, where specific proteins can be detected using antibodies.

$375 - antibody

Antibodies are highly specific tools in molecular biology used to identify, isolate, quantify or locate different proteins which can aid in understanding disease mechanisms and even validating drug targets. Antibodies bind to very specific regions (antigens) on molecules and can be used universally for a wide range of laboratory techniques such as: Immunocytochemistry and Immunofluorescence (which helps us visualize proteins within cells and tissues), western blotting (to detect specific proteins in cell lysate, human, or animal samples), etc.

$500 - One ELISA Kit

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) are a type of laboratory technique used to detect and quantify specific substances in samples, such as antibodies, antigens, proteins, and hormones. This can allow us to look for a specific protein in a large group of samples at once.

$1000- One multi-protein array kit

A multi-protein array kit can simultaneously measure and detect up to 100 proteins in one sample. Multi protein arrays allow us to broaden our discoveries by looking at a larger number of proteins at a time. This can help us identify any common tends or themes in samples/groups, which lets us narrow down and home in on more specific proteins to study.

This type of sequencing helps to expand our genetic study efforts.

$5000 - Support Visiting Scholars’ travel and hotel

Help us increase the number of students we can include for our 3-day program which includes mentorship, shadowing, and education opportunities relating to EDS.

$25,000 - One single-nuclei RNA sequencing kit

A single-nuclei RNA sequencing kit helps scientists study gene activity in individual cell nuclei. Instead of looking at a mix of all cells, this tool allows researchers to see which genes are active in specific cell types, even in complex tissues. This is especially useful for studying conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), where different cells may behave abnormally. By using this kit, researchers can better understand the underlying biology of EDS, which could lead to improved treatments.

$50,000 - Salary support for a research specialist for one year

This could include a year long research position.
